Socrates Canaries 2017
Software Craftsmanship and Testing Conference
April 6-9th, 2017
What is Socrates?
It's about People

There is no agenda and there are no speakers before the event starts. Proposals are presented during the event itself in the mornings, and voted by the participants right after. It’s a great opportunity to speak to and code with many like-minded and talented developers in an incredible venue by the beach.

It's about Action

The retreat itself is free. The only thing you pay for is the hotel, meals and meeting rooms. We will be there for 48 hours to collaborate and share ideas. There will be hands-on coding sessions, sessions focused on discussion, interactive talks and lots more.

It's about Fun

We will not only spend the days together but also the nights. And – believe it or not – programmers are a great company! There will be lots of opportunities to spend your time. Starting with simple chilling over hiking and biking, playing games, hanging around, talking, laughing…

This year, once again, the conference rooms will be located in the NH Imperial Playa, near the beach. You can stay there or at the NH Playa Las Canteras hotel located at a 3min walk from the first one.

We are again welcoming Adrián Perreau as the facilitator :D and addressing the food and Wi-Fi problems based on the previous year's feedback.

You can get there from the Gran Canaria airport by bus, taking route 60 to Santa Catalina (around 3€, the grey hours correspond to direct routes) and walk 15 minutes by the beach or take a cab (around 35-45€ depending on hours). If you want to go sightseeing, you may consider renting a car since the public transportation in the city may not be as great as you would expect.

  • Thursday 6th: Welcome + lightning talks from 5pm to 7pm. Dinner from 7pm to 9pm.
  • Friday 7th: Talks, workshops and discussions from 9am to 7pm with a 2 hour lunch break. Dinner from 7pm to 9pm.
  • Saturday 8th: Talks, workshops and discussions from 9am to 7pm with a 2 hour lunch break. Dinner from 7pm to 9pm.
  • Sunday 9th: Workshops.
Registration & Payment
Registration is now open!

You can buy your ticket here in Eventbrite, STAY EXPENSES NOT INCLUDED. It will pay for the conference rooms, the food and the most we could get out of the wifi. You are allowed to stay wherever you want as long as you bring your ticket, but we are still recommending you to stay in the hotel to get the full experience. Yet we are offering the opportunity to stay elsewhere cheaper to make the event accesible for more people.

Make a reservation at the hotel!

Unfortunately they coulnd't translate the page but it should be pretty straightforward :/

As previously stated in the Venue section, there are two hotels available, both are nearby, within a 3min walk from each other. The event takes place in the NH Imperial Playa hotel. The number of attendees should be limited to 80-90.

We are sorry for the really late registration due to solving multiple problems we encountered the previous year, trying to relieve the organization hell we had (but got stuck multiple times).

If you plan on arriving to the hotel before Socrates, the rooms are actually blocked from the 3rd until the 9th April so you are safe :). However if you are coming with some family members that won't attend the conference for vacation before or after, you should arrange it with the hotel directly once the rooms become available.

The event itself is free, the attendees just have to pay their stay expenses, the conference space and the food. However, those come at no cheap price. Should you offer us your financial support, it would make a difference and help Socracan to be open to everyone, not just those that can afford it.

In exchange for your backup, we can offer the following:

  • A mention during the opening and closing sessions of the conference
  • Your logo on our website
  • Mentions on social media channels
  • The merchandise you may provide available to everyone at the conference

If you would like to discuss further details or alternatives as part of your sponsorship, please let us know. We will be happy to work with you to come up with something that benefits everyone.
